Wow what a year so far. I don’t know about the rest of you, but right now I’m having some high hopes for the 2010 music releases. There is so much good music coming out it’s hard to keep up as a bedroom dj. That’s why I wanted to showcase some new tracks as well as some others that I’ve been holding on to for far too long. I’m also working on getting a once a month release schedule going. Right now I want to shoot for the second Monday of each month. If you’re thinking that the next volume is coming out the 8th of March then you are correct. Well that is, you MIGHT be correct. Another new addition to public tranceportation is the classic track. I’ve been playing some of my favorite classics the last few volumes and I think it’s time to make it a permanent addition to the set list. Everyone loves the classic tracks and it’s always a thrill to hear a song you haven’t heard in ages.
I’ve mentioned it on my twitter and facebook pages, but I want to put in words here. You may have noticed the banner on the side for itunes and yes public tranceportation is now on itunes. So if you prefer to get your trance fix that way, be sure to subscribe. You can click on the banner or here to get to the public tranceportation itunes podcast, page. I have also set up facebook and twitter accounts specifically for public tranceportation. This way you can get updates for upcoming mixes and news without having all my personal posts cluttering everything up. But feel free to follow me as well if you like =)
I would have to say that my personal favorite for this volume is Matt Darey’s (Urban Astronauts) see the sun. The Aurosonic remix is just to die for. I know just about every dj has this in their line up, but whatever, it’s really that good. My classic pick this month is one that will always be dear to my heart, Gouryella’s Ligaya in the Hiver and Hammer remix. Back in the day I would always request that my friends play this in the clubs. There’s just something about the funky beats and the symphonic strings that get me every time. I hope you all enjoy this volume as much as I do and I hope to finally get on schedule and release volume 8 in the next couple of weeks. Happy trancing!

This was the toughest mix I’ve had to put together in a long time. Not that the actual producing of it was hard, but for the life of me I could not make up my mind of which tracks to play in the set. It’s been a long three months since I last posted a mix and I continued to pick up new music here and there. When I went to put together a mix I simply could not nail down what tracks to play. Yesterday I was going through old recordings and I had two or three different mixes labeled volume 6, haha.
I always feel bad when I have great tracks that sit around and never get used. I tried to stay a bit more current with this mix as well as using tracks I’ve wanted to play for quite some time. I noticed last night that a lot of the artists in this set have been around for quite some time and it really got me thinking about how much Trance has evolved over the years. I remember the styles of these artists from ten years ago and to hear what they’re putting out now is just so different, but at the same time it all makes sense with how Trance has evolved as a music genre.
My personal favorite for this mix is DT8′s “Ride the Wave“. I love the use of the Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas samples as well as the funky beat that (at least to my knowledge) is completely different from his usual style. I feel that this mix is a great trip down memory lane with familiar names (and a remake/remix!!) of artists that I highly respect and have been a fan of for years.

Originally this was supposed to be released at the end of July as my “summer” mix. Hot weather and day to day life delayed this mix. I buckled down and recorded a couple of mixes. My biggest problem was that I had too many new tracks that I wanted to play and couldn’t decided on which ones to actually put in the mix. I finally trashed the two versions I had recorded and start off making a new set.
The first track, Andy Duguid’s remix of John O`Callaghan’s Never Fade Away, is currently Chels’ favorite at the moment. As always, I play the songs that I absolutely love and picking a favorite from this set is extremely hard for me. I also decided to play one of my favorite classics in this set. I played it a few years ago in an unreleased mix that I wanted to put in the archives, but I lost the master recording when my hard drives crashed last year. I can never get enough of the Signum remix of Truly. Another goal of this mix was to use a lot of artists that I don’t usually use. Mainly just because I try not to rehash what the bigger DJs play in their sets and still staying true to playing the music that I like.
Flash Brothers’ Destiny is a track that, and I don’t know how, never fails to make me smile. It’s just one of those songs that really hits me and I thought that for sure that it was going to be my favorite in this set. However, I think I’m going to have to go with the song that’s been stuck in my head all week. Roger Shah has been an up and coming force in the Trance world and the latest track with Chris Jones on the vocals does not disappoint. To the Sky has been lodged in my head ever since I was able to get my hands on it. Arisen Flame’s If I let you go is also in close running and it’s actually the first track I’ve heard from them. It will definitly be an artist name I will look for in the future.

Here is the original volume 3. It was delayed because of the mix I did for a friend of mine and then of course the regular daily grind pushing this mix back further. I apologize for the recent reuse of songs in mixes as I like to make each mix unique, but as this set was all ready completed, I did not want to recreate it. Another first for me in this mix is use of a mashup. I generally like mashups, but I don’t like using them myself as it’s hard to find a really good mashup and also they are more times than not a bootleg. However, with the mash up of Ferry Corsten’s Radio Crash and The Prodigy’s Smack my Bitch up it was a good opportunity to use (at the time) Ferry’s new single. Not to mention that I’m a huge Prodigy fan as well.
With this mix collecting dust on my hard drive waiting to be released, it was played many times as it’s Chelsea’s favorite of my mixes to date. My goal was to always play the less played songs, but as talking with Aram this last weekend he had pointed out how hard that really is. I had found this out long ago and had given up and decided that no matter what, I will play the music that I love and the music that inspires me. I’m really looking forward to working on the next mix and it seems that I’m not the only one upset with my lack of updates as pointed out by Aram’s brother this weekend. The less I play the more alien it feels and that is just something I never want to happen. With that note, I present volume 4 of many more to come.

dj phoenix presents public tranceportation vol. 03
Originally this was not the volume 3 that I had recorded. I rushed home Friday a couple weeks ago to prepare for some friends of ours to come over to hang out. We weren’t quite done putting all the finishing touches on things (cleaning, yay!!) when they show up. I was hoping to have this mix recorded before they showed up. See, this mix was originally what she wanted for her birthday last November. That was during the time my hard drives were going their way out. I had “scratches” (and not the good kind =P) in my mixes that I couldn’t quite get rid of; It was bad.
Since I had to re-record it anyways, I decided to change some of the songs too. There have been so many great tracks to come out this year so far it’s amazing. So I took the songs I know she likes and took some of my songs I love that haven’t really used in a mix and had at it. Now, my friend isn’t much for electronic music. She’s a guitar player and loves her live instruments, but I’ll never forget the first time they came over to hang out and fell on the floor when I played Tiesto’s remix of Ride by the Carry Brothers. I absolutely love that song and it’s a shame I haven’t used it in more mixes (oh wait, I think it was in the “original” volume 3, heh).
I also decided to format this a little different from my normal style. Generally I like to start off slow and then pick up the pace and end on a pretty energetic note. However, I wanted to make sure that this was enjoyable for her, since it was a present after all. As you can see from the track list below, there are some energetic tracks, but the ending isn’t apocalypticly energetic. I decided to tone it down a little to give that kind of…cool down feeling. I like it and have been listening to it quite a bit myself. Take a listen below and let me know what you think =)

dj phoenix presents public tranceportation vol. 02
A little over a year later and a new volume is added to the public tranceportation series. Wow. I never meant for this to be an annual update, but it looks like I’m headed that route, hah! Seriously though, I’d like to get on a monthly update. I’m shooting for every third weekend in the month. It seems reasonable, but I’m going to shoot it straight right now and say that there will still be delays! Though, I’m going to be more mindful of the updates and try and get into a rhythm with the new additions to the series.
I also want to continue with my Audio Surf mixes as well. The way that I see it, this will be my sort of “podcast” that I’ve been seeing other DJs doing as of late. I think music podcasts are a great idea. The format I’m going to be shooting for will be in the neighborhood of 4-5 songs running about 20 to 30 minutes a peice. I don’t know if anyone is still playing these extended mixes in Audio Surf, but I know that I sure enjoyed them. I haven’t set any schedule for these, but I’d like to get atleast one out a month.
I’m also putting a bit more detail into my tracklistings as you will see down below. Including bit rate, file size, run time and record label information. I just feel that it’s good information to have. Would hate to have a wouldbe downloader trying to download a mix on dialup (yes those users still exsist) and have it take all night long. I figure the more information that is up front the better.
I had a mix I was working on for Valentine’s Day, but was never able to finalize it. Originally I was going to release the second volume as a 2 hour mix since my last mix was released last year. Then the other night I was playing some of my newer tracks and put out a mix that I really enjoy listening to. I ran this mix a little shorter than usual. Mainly just because I liked how it came out and didn’t feel the need to add anything else. Also, I’ve recently came across the AH.fm forum site and was wanting to release a mix on there. They’re wanting a format of 60mins or as close to as possible and since I already fit that format, I was thinking “why not?”. There are a couple of songs in this set that I have been just dying to have. Arnej’s “Strangers We’ve Become” and “Man on the Run” are the tracks I’ve been obsesed with all summer/winter/whatever. Annnnnnd…that’s about it. Hope you enjoy the mix!! Oh and happy (late) St. Patty’s day!!

Hotter than Haitees!!
There is one thing that us Northwesterners are not used to and that’s heat. Granted that we get our fair share of rainfall just about 8 months out of the year, it does heat up every once in a while. I tuffed it out on Friday, but with all the equipment on and lack of air conditioning, I am really dreading going back in and working on the new mix. So I’m going to do something that I didn’t want to do, repost an old mix.
This mix, dubbed “Lost”, was recorded back in 2005 to be submitted to the local radio station for their newly founded electrionic music centric show, “The Cocktail Mix”. The mix had to fit their format of being a solid track in the range of 50 to 55 minutes. The mix was released on the old site, but never cleaned up enough for radio. Also, on the old site, I had a lot less diskspace and mixes were encoded in 96Kbps. Ok, so no more excuses, on to the tracklist!
Original release: June 16th, 2005
1. 24 – The Longest Day (Armin van Buuren Remix)
2. Fictivision – Ringworld
3. Sam Sharp – Twister (Sam Sharp mix)

dj phoenix presents public tranceportation vol. 01
Public tranceportation was a project name that came to mind with me getting back into djing and remembering what it meant so much to me in the first place. My love for trance music, dance, and clubs all came to me most in part due to one of the best friends I have in life, Aram. I had known about the music before meeting him, but it was him throwing me into a world filled with music of types and styles that I never would of dreamt of.
I remember when we were starting our gig. Aram, Tom and myself made up trancendance. A take on transcendence and the genre of trance. I’m sure you get the idea. Aram’s previous project was to be called trance-it. As you’ve probably guessed, having to do with transit and the main type of music genre for his show. My new project name is to reflect on the main reason for why I do what I do and remembering all the good times with old friends.
With that, I leave to you my newest mix. I played this at my girlfriend Chelsea’s birthday party. It was a blast, I had so much fun and I hope the people who were there had as much fun as well. The track list consists of all the songs I know she loves. The only exception is the last two songs. I added those in as her and a few other of our friends came up and hung out upstairs. So I turned the speakers around and played a couple more songs before becoming too intoxicated. Though, I know she still loves all songs in this mix.
