So far I’d have to say I’m very pleased with wordpress 2.6. A lot of the backend junk is fixed. Enough of that though. Below is a link to a recording of the first Audio Surf mix I made. It’s a pretty good ride. I’ve got a thread on the Audio Surf forms that I’ve been updating with new mixes. You can get to it here.

I want to do something a bit different with the next Audio Surf mix. I’ve been trying to go on a weekly release, so the next mix may be a bit delayed. It really depends on how long it will take and if I got everything I need to do it with. If not I’ll put up a new mix and postpone this idea to a later date.

If there is a song you just have to have in one of my Audio Surf mixes, please let me know here or on the audio surf and/or steam forums.

dj phoenix presents – audio surf mix 02

Category: Audio Surf Mixes — djphoenix @ 11:15 am

When I started DJing back in 2004 (thereabouts) I initially wanted to mix with Trance as it was my genre of choice. I soon discovered that Trance wasn’t going to be the easiest genre for a starting DJ. I then switched to mixing my collection of House music. After a while I was getting more and more frustrated because I felt that I should have been better than I was at that point. I was getting tired of playing the same type of songs over and over. I finally got fed up and decided to just go for it. I pop’d in some of my favorite Trance songs at the time and found that I was having fun again mixing the music that I love.

Last week when I was searching for good Audio Surf songs, I pop’d in the Signum remix of Delerium’s “Truly” and found that it played very well. I remembered a mix that I did a few years back when I finally started mixing Trance that I always loved to listen to. Each song In this mix plays very well in Audio Surf. I would highly suggest playing the songs individually. I forgot all the songs I used in the mix, so I just picked my four favorites and put them in my second Audio Surf mix. The mix runs just shy of 30 minutes, but whether I’m listening to the Mix or playing in Audio Surf, it never feels “that long”. I always get the sense that I’ve only been playing for 5 minutes.

All the songs are “downhill” plays and I’m throughly happy with the way the mix came out on Audio Surf. There’s even a bit of a “corksrew” effect on one part of the mix. Hope you all enjoy it as much as I did.

Audio Surf Mix 02

Time: 29 minutes and 58 seconds

1. Whirlpool – Under the Sun (Solarstone Remix)
2. Delerium – Truly (Signum Remix)
3. Aalto – Taurine (Super 8 Remix)
4. Ayumi Hamasaki – M (Above & Beyond Remix)

dj phoenix presents – audio surf mix 01

Category: Audio Surf Mixes — djphoenix @ 4:12 pm

So the other night I was laying in bed and I got brilliant idea.  Why not record a small trance set with all songs that play well with audio surf?  Well that’s what I set out to do and this is my first mix to do just that.  All mixes are going to be in the 20 to 30 minute range depending on song length and song choice.  I really didn’t want to go much more than 30 minutes because I don’t know how I (or anyone else) would feel playing a continuous track for 40+ minutes.  Though after was all said and done, I could hardly believe that it was only 30 minutes (well 28 to be exact).  I’ve been quite busy lately and haven’t had time to just sit down and play an hour plus set, so this is another way to keep my site updated with new content and to put that content to good use.

I learned a lot from starting this project.  There seems to be some quirks with songs in audio surf and the songs I picked didn’t translate 100% true to form in the mix.  I think this has a lot to do with tempo and pitch changes from beat matching.  It could also be from reading the song length as well.  I’m still unsure of how the algorithm really works.  So right now my song choosing is by trial and error, which is fine by me because that means more audio surf time  ;D.  It was also nice to find out that the max song length was recently increased to 60 minutes instead of the previous 25.  I’m going to try and come out with more of these as much as I can.  It’s a lot easier to throw down a 30 minute mix and get it mastered with so much stuff going.  Not to mention the studio gets hot so quick!!

So without further ado I present to you the mix and track list:

Audio Surf Mix 01

Time: 27 minutes and 32 seconds

1.  Solarstone – Eastern Sea (First State Remix)
2.  Rank 1 – Breathing (Airwave Remix)
3.  G&M Project – Sunday Afternoon (NuNRG Remix)
4.  Ron Van Den  Beuken – Timeless (Ron Van De Beuken Club Mix)
