Disaster Strikes Back

Category: News — djphoenix @ 7:08 am

I built my new computer last weekend, but unfortunately got ahead of myself.  I was overly excited and unfortunately that overcame sensibility and caution.  I ended up screwing up my hard drives and wiping them clean.  Luckily I have a lot of stuff backed up, but that just means I have to dig around to get to the right CDs/DVDs/etc.  I had the new mix I was working on for the 2nd volume, which is waaaay overdue, and also the new audio surf mix and one special project for audio surf.  I may still have some stuff backed up on my old hard drive I was using for a while, but I still will have to rerip all my music and find and reinstall all my music software as well.

The biggest problem is I’ve been addicted to Oblivion.  Now that I’m actually able to run that game at pretty much max settings, I’ve been able to enjoy the game more.  I’ll have to do some re-recording after I find everything, but that won’t be until after PAX this weekend at the very least.  My girlfriend will be leaving me for a wedding next week and that will leave me bored out of my mind for the first week/weekend in September.  If I can pull myself away from Oblivion long enough to play some music, I could put something up then.  I want to get up a new CD length mix first.  Audio surf mix to follow after, but depending on time I may just get the audio surf mix out first.

Either way, check back and all will be going again soon!

dj phoenix presents – audio surf mix 03

Category: Audio Surf Mixes — djphoenix @ 11:23 am

With the next audio surf mix I really wanted to find songs that had really intense parts that would be fast paced and challenging. I stumbled across some older songs and found that a lot of the older trance/house/techno songs seemed to fit this mold best. I think that the style and the sounds that were used in the early days of electronic music are a lot more audio surf “friendly”.

I dug deep in my bag of classic tracks for this mix. I really like how this mix turned out and it seems to embody what I was set out to do. I ran the tracks a bit longer so that they would, hopefully, keep the characteristics of the songs in the mix. I still ran into the issue where the songs themselves change a bit when put into a mix. I going to start experimenting with tracks and run them at different speeds to see what exactly changes in audio surf. I think a lot changes when you mess with the speed of a song in audio surf.

A lot of the songs in this mix are songs we used to play in clubs and were very popular at that time. This mix was a huge blast to the past for me and I really enjoyed making it. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do and I can’t wait to see the scoreboard.
